Roy Sealey Belmont Shores Clubhouse Building Tour
Sunday, June 12th @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm$40
Please join us for us for a tour of the recently restored, award-winning Belmont Shores Clubhouse Building originally designed by architect Roy Sealey!
Roy Sealey was a mid-century Black architect that defied odds by designing several iconic buildings such as the Seaport Marina Hotel, Belmont Shores Mobile Estates Clubhouse, and Tuna Club all located, at the time, in the newly affluent and least diverse parts of Long Beach. While mostly overshadowed by Sealey’s acclaimed mentor Paul Revere Williams, there were several other Black architects in the 1950s and 60s that overcame racism with talent and determination.
A stunning example of mid-century architecture, Belmont Shores Mobile Estates Clubhouse was awarded a prestigious 2022 Preservation Award by Long Beach Heritage. We will be hosting an exclusive tour of the facility provided by award winning local contractor Jan van Dijs. Visitors will be treated to a screening of a video project created by Studio One Eleven architects the follows the path toward restoration for the Sealey building and address his career and the historic barriers he overcame in order to practice his passion. The tour and screening will be followed with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres served within the Community Room, traditionally allocated for use by residents only, but graciously provided by the Belmont Shores community for our use
Tickets are limited
